FX September Virtual Luncheon

September 25, 2020 @ 11:30 am 1:00 pm

How ComebackKC is helping beat COVID-19 in the Kansas City region (and what you can still do to help.)

KC never quits. ComebackKC was formed earlier this year to help bring KC back from the pandemic the right way – safely and responsibly – to ensure that our region comes back better and stronger than ever. COVID-19 isn’t going away anytime soon. ComebackKC coordinates and helps unify all messaging by state, county and local health authorities, along with integration with both the private and not-for-profit sectors of our community, with a particular focus on our vulnerable populations.

ComebackKC is a 501c3, under the management of Alt-Cap. It’s not political. It’s science-based. And all of us are needed in order to continue to fight and beat COVID-19. Join Mark Logan and Eric Morgenstern of ComebackKC at this interactive Zoom for the latest update on the COVID-19 fight — the purpose, accomplishments to date and challenges ahead. Learn how you can help KC come back!

FX July Virtual Luncheon

July 31, 2020 @ 11:30 am 1:00 pm

The Poems of Our Dreams and Daydreams

In this webinar we will explore the dream quality in poems based on dreams. We will discuss ways to get started recording dreams and best practices in using the raw material in poetry. I believe poets are dreamers and visionaries and daydreaming could be an integral part of our process. We will talk about the poets’ abilities to stay connected to real and imagined worlds and to capture “visions” onto the page. We will go over a series of brilliant examples, then write our own dream poems as a class exercise.

Katerina Stoykova is the author of several award-winning poetry books and the Senior Editor of Accents Publishing, where she has selected, edited, and published close to 80 poetry collections. She hosts the literary radio show Accents on WRFL 88.1FM. Katerina acted in the lead roles if the independent feature films Proud Citizen and Fort Maria, both directed by Thom Southerland. She splits her time between the coast of the Black Sea and the rolling hills of Kentucky. Katerina writes, lives and things in two languages.

FX June Luncheon: Panel Discussion

June 26, 2020 @ 11:30 am 1:00 pm

Grab your own lunch and join us for a very informative panel discussion on current events and past experiences.

About this Event

Often, we consume content through one narrow lens. As a result, we fail to understand different perspectives and the entirety of a situation.

It doesn’t have to remain this way, though.

Kansas City is home to a number of black-owned and minority-focused publications. On June 26, FX of KC will host Community Voices, a virtual roundtable discussion with local minority media leaders to hear their perspective and to learn about their publications, experiences, and challenges they face.

Panelists include Ruth Ramsey, publisher of Our Health Matters Magazine, and Saleem Rasheed, Jr., Publisher of Taking Care of Business Magazine, and Eric Wesson, Managing Editor and Publisher of The Kansas City Call. To facilitate meaningful dialogue at the event, we encourage attendees to submit questions beforehand. Please submit these to [email protected].

Join us for this virtual lunch and learn Friday, June 26th, on Zoom. Register to get the link.

FREE for FX members; $10 for non-members
