A Voice for Artists and the Arts

With many creatives having roots in the arts, The Freelance Exchange of Kansas City is pleased to welcome Alice Thorson, editor of KC Studio magazine, as guest speaker for the March 31st luncheon. Alice will speak to the editorial and design strategies behind the city’s foremost arts publication, and how both drive audience development.

Alice was appointed editor of KC Studio in March 2015 following 23 years as an art critic at The Kansas City Star. She works to bring depth, focus and a heightened level of expertise to its editorial coverage of Kansas City’s cultural organizations and the talented artists they present.

Alice earned a master’s degree in art history at Northern Illinois University, and she continued her graduate studies at the University of Chicago. She has participated in the arts scene as an instructor, contributing writer and columnist at several institutions and publications.

Anyone is welcome to attend at the appropriate rate. Non-members who register at the member rate will be asked to pay the remainder/difference upon arrival.

  • Sedona Salad: Corn-black bean salsa, mango, marinated chicken, queso fresco, avocado, pickled red onion, crisp tortilla, chipotle lime vinaigrette
  • Quinoa Salad: Kale, quinoa, feta, sun-dried tomato, pumpkin seed, dried cranberry, sweet red onion vinaigrette
  • Burger: Half-pound patty on bun, includes fries. Cheese: none or American
  • Club Sandwich: Ham, turkey, bacon, gruyere, avocado, pesto aioli, tomato, greens, fries
  • Reuben: Corned beef, pickled cabbage, gruyere, stoneground mustard aioli, marbled rye, fries

All meals include a beverage (coffee, tea or soda), tax and tip.
